These bouts were dedicated in the memory of Thomas Alelov of Gladiators Gym, who fought and won last week in the Golden Gloves in Trenton. His life came to an end last Wednesday morning, the cause is not known at the present time. He would have been 18 years old on April 2nd. Before the bouts, all the Golden Glovers circled the ring and we gave him a standing 9 count. May his soul rest in peace.

The following items were discussed:

1. Special guests tonight were members of Ring 1 in Philadelphia. They traveled up to New York to promote the unveiling of the Joey Giardello Statue. Joey was born in Brooklyn and always considered himself a New Yorker at heart.

2. It was discussed that another fundraiser should be held in August or September. It was decided that an event at the Crabhouse with some local celebrity fighters will be on hand for signatures and pictures. We are looking into maybe having a cigar or wine company sponsor the event. This is in its early stages of development and no firm dates or parameters have been decided yet. If members have any suggestions or connections please email them to me.

3. The Sunnyside Garden Arena Memorial is getting close. The board has decided to keep the plaque to about 50 names, a pair of boxing gloves, and an etching of the front of the arena. Wendy’s, the food chain that is located at the site, will donate a section of their property and also agreed to cover half of the cost of the memorial. All Ring 8 members who fought there as either an amateur or a pro will be eligible to be on the plaque.

4. The 2010 Ring 8 Holiday and Awards Ceremony will be on December 19th at Russo’s on the Bay. Very special guests are expected to attend this years event.
