New York City, NY, June 9, 2009: Jackie Tonawanda, known as the “Female Ali” has heard the final bell this morning. She fought a mighty battle and we will all miss this Pioneer, Coach, Advisor, Friend, Relative and confidante. Known in the sports world as one of the pioneers of women’s boxing, she has won many battles in the ring and in her life and now has come to her final destination.

Please join us in making her going home a success by contributing to her funeral expenses. The bell has rung and time is of the essence. The following items were discussed at our meeting on Tuesday, May 19th:

1. How we can help members that are hospitalized, in need of support, or in need of assistance from their “brothers.”

2. Ring 8/Bill Gallo Scholarships were handed out to three members of the boxing community. Ring 8 is a big believer that education is part of being a well-rounded boxer. We will continue to support boxers who further their education, whether in an academic school or in a trade school.

3. Ring 8 will be in attendance on June 12th at Capitale’s to support Jack Hirsch, a
member of our Board of Directors, and also president of the Boxing Writers Association of America.

4. Ring 8 made a contribution to the Brooklyn College Foundation/Hank Kaplan Archives. It is our hope that this will be an ongoing, mutually beneficial relationship with this foundation run by College Archivist, Anthony M. Cucchiara.
President of Ring 8, Matt Farrago believes and is hopeful this may be the start of the building of a Boxing Hall of Fame in New York City-.

5. The financials of the Ring 8 were discussed in an open forum.

6. Henny Wallitsch was given a plaque thanking him for contributions and his efforts made as the former president of Ring 8.

7. Our next meeting will be at O’Neill’s Restaurant, Tuesday, June 16th, 2009, at 7:00pm. Board of Directors will meet at 6:00pm.

8. Meeting was adjourned at 8:50 pm.
